Madinah Academy

Watch Our Information Session

What is Madinah Academy?

Madinah Academy is an Islamic Montessori Elementary school located at the Islamic Center of South Bay-LA, also known as “Masjid al-Noor” (the Masjid of Light). In the tradition of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) city – “Madinah al-Munawwarah” (the Illuminated City), we hope that this school can be a source of light for our children.

What is Montessori?

Montessori is an educational philosophy that emphasizes respect for the child, experiential (hands-on) learning, individualized education, intrinsic motivation, independence, and collaborative environments.

What does a classroom at your school look like?

As a Montessori elementary program, we utilize multi-age classrooms. A typical classroom has three grades together – this allows for children to move through the curriculum at their own pace while developing mentoring relationships. Classrooms are designed strategically so that students can interact with materials directly, in a predictable way. Typically, students will use floor or table space equally as needed for their work. Long periods of free work time allow students to focus and dive deeply into what they are learning.

How do you integrate Islam?

The Montessori approach naturally integrates a God-centered perspective. We utilize these natural integration points to elevate a child’s connection to Allah swt through daily practice and creating a loving community. We integrate love and knowledge of Allah swt into all of our subject matter. Additionally, we introduce specific lessons in Islamic history, beliefs, and practices.

What ages do you teach?

For the 2025-2026 school year, we are enrolling Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades (with a possibility of adding 3rd if there is enough interest). Our intention is to add a grade each year until we reach 5th (or possibly 6th) grade.

What are the school hours ?

Monday through Friday, 8:30-3:30

How are your teachers trained?

Our teachers have completed Lower Elementary training through an American Montessori Society (AMS) training program. Some teachers also have their California Teaching Credential. All of our staff and teachers are additionally required to have continuing education in Islamic Studies.

Are you accredited?

As a new school, we are not yet accredited, but will be working on obtaining both WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and AMS (American Montessori Society) accreditation.

What are your fees and tuition?
